I've been studying this one a lot lately. It expresses just what I wanted to say about the awesome and deadly beauty of the Southwest. It was over 100 degrees the day we were there. Had we not had an air-conditioned vehicle nearby, we would have been crawling under those boulders to escape the heat. It felt as if we were venturing into a sublime landscape not intended for humans. We were trespassing in the realm of the gods.
Look for the subtle variations of color going on in the shadow areas. It is one of my favorite things to paint, a feast for the eyes. My heart and soul lie in these nuances of light.
