“Art for Land Sake”

Inspired by ranchland, open space, and other property preserved under conservation easements by the Palmer Land Trust, approximately 40 of the region’s top artists exhibited over 100 works at the “Art for Land Sake” show in September. The show was packed and sales were brisk.

An annual fundraiser for the Palmer Land Trust, 40% of each sale went toward purchasing conservation easements to preserve lands in southeast Colorado. This is a great organization that is doing much to preserve our heritage. To find out more, go to Palmer Land Trust.

I sold all three paintings in the exhibit, and was honored with the Palmer Land Trust Award for “Morning at Red Rocks.”

Travels in Ohio

Patrice and I just returned from a trip to my hometown of Tipp City, Ohio. We visited my daughter Abby, son-in-law Bryan, our three-year-old granddaughter Isabella, and our new grandson Elijah Octavio Ramos.

We also attended my 40th high school reunion of the Tippecanoe High School class of 1968. It was an amazing evening, catching up with classmates I hadn’t seen many of them in 40 years. It was surprising to find that after a while, they began to look much like they did back in the old days.

The Class of ’68 also honored me by presenting one of my paintings to the new high school. I think I was voted “most talented” in my class back in ‘68, and while I was probably not the most talented, I have tried to make good on the honor. This event sort of brought it full circle. Anyway, I’m very pleased to have one of my paintings hanging in the hallowed halls of my alma mater. Maybe it will inspire some kid in a future class to become an artist. That would be great. I want to express my deepest appreciation to the Class of ’68 for this honor.

I’ve been working on this one off-and-on awhile now. It’s one of those apparently simple paintings that hide some unexpected challenges. I keep going back to it, reworking things until it feels right. I think it’s about finished.

“Out in Crowley County,” oil, 9” x 22.5”
